In 2016, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU), Gandhinagar, commissioned a study to assess the impact of the rehabilitation work done by Wings To Fly, in association with Ahmedabad Police, on the bootlegger women of the marginalised community in Ahmedabad. The study observed that the work done by Wings To Fly had started to bring a positive change in the lives of these women. The difference to the lives, self- esteem, status in society and overall demeanor of these women and their families was commendable.
Wings To Fly, with strong support and encouragement from its various partners such as Ahmedabad Police, Rotary International, Godrej SALONi, Tata Trusts and Larsen & Toubro, has shown that though the ride so far has not been easy and the road ahead is full of obstacles, it is possible to bring about a real, palpable change in the lives of women who have a desire to leave behind their chequered past.
In a short period of 7 years, Wings to Fly has successfully assisted over 5000 women of various communities to earn a respectable livelihood by providing them with the necessary training and infrastructure. These women are trained in producing handicrafts, jewellery making, sanitary pad manufacturing, stitching, beauty and wellness, and other creative and economically viable activities. The products made by these women are exhibited at various exhibitions held in different of parts of Gujarat. The profits generated from the sale of these products are then distributed among the women who have produced them as salary, thus encouraging them to break away from their bleak past and starting life with renewed hope.
